DAY1: EKSU AT SCSN 17TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE.

The Annual students chemical society of Nigeria conference kicked started today 23rd of September 2019, hosted by KOGI STATE UNIVERSITY.

The Students chemical society of Nigeria (SCSN), the student's arm of Chemical society of Nigeria is an umbrella body of all chemists in tertiary institutions in Nigeria covering all undergraduates offering pure and applied chemistry, industrial chemistry, chemistry education, science laboratory technology(Chemistry option) and chemical sciences(Chemistry option) courses in Nigeria universities, polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education.

SCSN was established in the year 2000. Activities of chemistry students in institutions of higher learning across the country were quite uncoordinated. In institutions where chemistry student unions exist, they bear divergent nomenclatures such as Association of Chemistry Students in Nigeria(ACSN), Chemistry Students Association in Nigerian polytechnics(CSNAP) and lots more.

In August - September 2005, SCSN took a bold step to unite chemistry students in Africa, by embarking on the 'CURIUM 05' West African Tour led by Elder Isijaan. A. Nkanta(then council chairman) to neighboring countries including Ghana, Togo & Benin Republic;and later linking up with South Africa and sierra leone which led to the formation of Student's Chemical society of Africa (SCSA).
SCSN is also bonded to the Students Affiliate of the American Chemical Society(SAACS) and Students Special Chapter Of The Royal Society Of Chemistry(RSC) United Kingdom.
SCSN has succeeded in uniting Students in Nigeria and beyond with over 50 formidable SCSN chapters and over 15,000 students. The body strives to protect and promote the academic and social welfare of her members in a challenging academic society like ours where chemistry undergraduates suffer a great deal of infringement on students right.

The annual conference which was hosted by chemists from KOGI STATE UNIVERSITY was tagged "SAVING OUR ENVIRONMENT, the scientific conquest"
The conference commenced few minutes past 9 o clock. In attendance, representing Ekiti State University SCSN Chapter (from left ) Akinnawo Sunday, Fagbemi Michael, Adeyemi Ann, Akinbola Afeez Akintunde, Joseph Janet, Aroso Oluwadamilola, Olokose Opeyemi, Temidayo A. Elizabeth, Omoyajowo Busayo.

INTRODUCTION

THE DEFINITION OF ENVIRONMENT

The environment is being used by all people around us.

The theme of this conference can be coined as "SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT, SAVE LIFE".
The term environment was derived from a French word "Environia" meaning surround,.it consists of atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and biosphere. But it can be roughly divided into two types namely.
1. Micro
2. Macro

SCIENTIFIC QUEST

Scientific Quest is a search, seeking a pursuit through science to find or obtain an unknown knowledge.
As chemists, we must understand what our roles are in the scientific quest for saving our environment.

Chemistry has a dual role in the unfolding picture of environmentally sustainable development.

SAVE ENVIRONMENT, SAVE LIFE.

Nature gave us all necessary resources to live and Prosper and now, it is in danger and needs our help. What else can we do to protect the environment?

Emit a lot of green gas.
We must unite together in order to protect the place we live in.
People are in integral part of nature, we are dependent on it as we cannot imagine our life without nature.

CHEMISTRY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.

Green chemistry is a field of new, innovative ways which employs the use of the trench of chemical sciences to make changes in daily life.

Green technology is introduced for products to be used and recycled.

In conclusion, we are constantly learn how we can make a difference in the world by saving our environment.
Save water, electricity, don't throw away your note books, use a rẹ usable beverage containers, avoid taking cars out when possible.
